Established in 1918, Fort Bragg is home to the Airborne and Special Operations Forces, a major United States Army installation, located near Fayetteville, North Carolina. It also houses many Specials Forces, including Delta and the Green Beret. The fort is named for Confederate general Braxton Bragg. Ft. Bragg Soldiers have participated in combat and humanitarian operations in countries around the world. Ft. Bragg responded to provide support to those impacted by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake. They are always ready to fight or lend a helping hand. Ft. Bragg serves a vital role in the war on terror, deploying and supporting more troops than any other post, in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn. Today Ft. Bragg, has approximately 57,000 military personnel, 11,000 civilian employees and 23,000 family members, and is one of the largest military complexes in the world.
